I confess. When it comes to TV series, I am a late bloomer.
I usually do not follow the crowd and I am not hooked by what’s trendy.
So, I have never watched Game of Thrones, nor Stranger Things or The walking dead. At the dinner table I would hear my kids commenting on the latest episode of the series and I would shake my head partly in disbelief, partly in wonder of human creativity for stories.
With that attitude I lost the launch of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Truth to be said, my kids never mentioned the show. I bumped into the first episode by coincidence, if you call coincidence the combination of a dull Saturday winter afternoon, the Coronavirus pandemic with its restrictions and the agreement between my TV channel and Amazon Prime Video.
It was love at first sight! I just could not stop watching. I am not going to review the show and will not spoil. But my experience prompted a question: how many things in life do we forgo because of our strong belief of what we like or dislike?
If I give it a thought, some of the best things that happened to me were unexpected or even unwelcome. Never had a tight friendship that started with a fight or a dislike? This is what I am talking about!
I usually give a label to the year when it is coming to an end. It helps me give meaning and make my learning stick. I have lived the “Divorce Year”, the “Out of my mind Year”, the “Moving to a big city Year”, to name a few.
I am not going to name 2020; so many things have happened this year that I am unable to find a word that can represent it well.
But, breaking all rules and my own tradition, I am going to name 2021 now.
I am a curious person and I like to learn but I usually stop short of doing. I am pretty much satisfied with the knowledge I have acquired and do not feel the need to go further. So, 2021 will be the year of doing, of acting. 2021 will be the year “What if I do..?”.
I make you all accountable to challenge me with new experiences, ideas, enterprises, everything that will honour my “What if I do..? Year”. What will your 2021 look like?
